New Wave Thai
There’s more to new wave Thai than the fab Err, with a string of exciting Thai restaurants popping up in Bangkok over the last year. Get on the eat beat and waddle this way...

Swish, pan-Thai, fine-dine affair Saneh Jaan dishes bold trad flavours in a contempo-chic space, comprising a seductive red lounge and a neutral-hued dining room, with cream leather banquettes and luscious snaps of Thailand. Food celebrates regional ingredients; drinks span cocktails, 40-plus whiskies and wine.

We also rate hip comfort crib Baan, where updated homely Thai family recipes drawing on sustainable produce are served in a stylish, double-height space (think geometric white screens and metal pendant lights). Tuck into spicy shrimp salad, curries, wok wizardry, desserts. Killer cocktails too.

Offering a mod twist on street food, Baa Ga Din is helmed by rated Bangkok chef Thitid Tassanakajorn (Baan, Taper and Le Du). Wood, brick and terrazzo decor gets colour pops from fish and cockerel murals and metal chairs. Order deep-fried chicken wings or cured sea bass, then kick back with cocktails at the bar.

Super-elegant, trad-mod Thai Khao boasts just one chef’s table, seating four to 12, for top-notch service. The carte blanche six-, eight- or 10-course tasting menus take their cue from seasonal ingredients, with chef Vichit Mukura scouring local markets for spoils.

Young gun-run Le Du, another Tassanakajorn triumph, offers prettily plated mod-Thai seasonal specialities, with à la carte and tasting menus. River prawns, wild mushroom and dry-aged beef tenderloin star.
