In the Mood for Jazz

June 15, 2015
One of the great grandaddies of jazz, Thelonious Monk, once said, ‘The piano ain't got no wrong notes.’ Well it would seem that Bangkok’s epicureans are saying the same thing for Moodz, a snazzy, jazzy, Bill Bensley-designed, wine-and-diner on the corner of Thonglor Soi 10.

With teal, turquoise, mustard and gold accents, pops of primary colours courtesy of dynamic Jazz Age artworks, and elegant Mid-Century Modern furny, the interiors alone ratchet up some serious style points.

Add to that a sophisticated menu showcasing classic European dishes via Asian flavour influences, and you’re in for a night to remember. Some of the early standouts include a zingy tuna tartare with crispy shallots and a horseradish dressing, as well as a braised beef cheek served in its own jus, and accompanied by foie gras and a creamy lemon potato.

Of course, the drinks are just as diggable, with top-score pours and creative concoctions like the tropical No Comment (vodka, coconut rum, lychee chili, lemongrass and kaffir lime) and the Honey Bitter (vodka, Drambuie, Angostura bitters, honey and diced apple) for a sweet, warming sip. If that doesn’t get you in the Moodz, we don’t know what will...
