An Historic Fleet

An Historic Fleet

The Peninsula Hong Kong and Rolls-Royce have been linked in a partnership which stretches back to 1970 when the hotel bought its first fleet of seven Silver Shadows. Seen here is one of the current fleet of 14 Rolls-Royce Phantom EWBs, together with a stunning vintage 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II. The Peninsula Hotels owns three 1934 Phantoms, located in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Set in the east coast of the Sai Kung Peninsula, Tai Long Wan – otherwise known as Big Wave Bay - is a large bay with four white sand beaches flanked by rugged headlands and backed by impressive hills that form part of the Sai Kung Country Park. Tai Long Wan is only accessible by helicopter, boat or a three-hour hike, and so to shoot this Peninsula Moment, the 10-man crew took a three-hour boat ride, transferred to a speedboat to get closer to shore, and then had to wade to shore, waist deep in water, carrying all their equipment over their heads to keep it dry!

Almost 1,000 succulent pieces of assorted seafood star in the shot at the Long Table of Felix, The Peninsula’s rooftop restaurant designed by Philippe Starck. An avant-garde design sensation when it opened on 1 December 1994 as the crowing jewel of The Peninsula new tower extension, it has become a design classic and is one of Starck’s most celebrated and well-recognised restaurants.

Filmed at 4.30am on a Saturday morning as the sun was just beginning to rise, yet the streets were still empty of other traffic, the cars were “choreographed” to drive in formation while the crew shot from an open-top tourist bus.

The Peninsula’s unique Chocolate Room is the setting for the shot of the pageboy picking up a chocolate pageboy sculpture to give to a departing guest. For this shot, over 1000 pieces of chocolate ganache, 10 chocolate door lions and 16 chocolate pageboys were painstakingly crafted by Maîte Chocolatier Marijn Coertjens and his team.
