Balenciaga's Marble Manhattan Flagship

06 février 2014

As New York kicks off the fall/winter 2014 ready-to-wear fashion shows today, all eyes are on the catwalk for fashion darling Alexander Wang’s third effort as the creative director of haute French brand Balenciaga, following much critical acclaim for his first two collections. Impressively, between designing his own eponymous label and filling in Ghesquiere’s shoes at Balenciaga, he’s managed to find time to design the latter label’s sparkly New York flagship, a vision of elegant Italian striated marble that debuted late November in Soho.

For the ultra high-end fashion house, nothing less than total opulence would do – and so it seems only fitting that 5,400 square feet of deep emerald Verde Ramegiatto marble was flown in from Italy, along with the workers who installed it into the 4,120 sq ft, bi-level Mercer St space. Dreamed up by Wang in partnership with interior designer Ryan Korban, the flagship look is completed with a skylight ceiling covered with a lattice metal inlay. On ground level, the label’s offering is luxurious to match – you’ll find the complete collection of men’s and womenswear, striking against the deep green marble and clean white walls, and of course the sought-after ‘Le Dix’ bag, the first ‘It accessory’ by Wang for Balenciaga. A perfect ten, indeed – but it’s the interiors we’re really looking at!
