New Nabe Fave

Trellis

Lincoln Park and DePaul residents feared the worst when their beloved sipsmith Gaslight closed, but they needn’t have worried – Four Corners Taverns Group promised to reopen it elsewhere, and in the meantime they’ve launched in its place the urbane but relaxed wine and craft beer-centric Trellis, complete with wood-fired oven and brand new menu. With a host of industrial-chic fittings like raw brick, hanging steel lamps, and banks of high stools and banquettes, Trellis sits pretty on the corner of N. Racine Avenue and W. Montana, easily bridging the gap of neighbourhood drop-in and destination hotspot if nothing else than for its extraordinary beer offering.

Along with 15 draft beers like the English Dark Horse Boffo Brown ale, and Tightened Scarlet Fire from Ireland, come 34 further brews in bottles and cans ranging from Arcadia Loch Down and Big Bay Wavehopper to the 7.6% North Coast Prankster. The generous and affordable wine list runs to over 70 mostly New World reds including the Langtry Serpentine Meadow Petite Sirah, plus there are nifty signature cocktails like the Gentleman of Leisure blending bourbon, apricot, sherry and Chinese bitters. Add a toothsome dinner and brunch menu of style-tweaked comfort faves – don’t miss the bacon and fig jam pizza, and the venison meatballs over tagliatelle – and you’ve got a spanking new neighbourhood hang.
