Bags and Brunch

23 janvier 2014

Serendipity – rather than necessity – is sometimes said to be the mother of invention, and certainly so in the case of Fashion Institute of Technology-alum Wannasiri “Boyy” Kongman. Her chance meeting in New York with a Marie Claire editor resulted in a handbag commission that would catapult the Thai designer into the heady and competitive world of accessories, and the launch of her own eponymous line in 2006. Fast forward to 2014, and with the help of partner Jesse Dorsey the brand has a developed a loyal global following, as well as a handsome flagship store in Bangkok’s hyper-hip Thonglor neighbourhood, complete with stylish cafe.

Incorporating the finest materials like Italian leather and hardware, the BOYY bag DNA is a neat blend of luxury and utility, with a welcome lack of visible logos or branding that proves again that luxe doesn’t have to be bling. Along with your stingray Otis or python-print Slash bag, you can pick up snazzy Alican Icoz rock crystal jewellery, and be sure to allow time for chic people-watching at the BOYY cafe with its terrace table, vibrant tracks and toothsome list of comfort faves from a simple chicken sandwich to spaghetti puttanesca, as well as a well-collated list of cocktails like the classic Jimmy’s Old Fashioned. Accessories never tasted so good!
