Hotel Overview

On December 11th 1928, The Peninsula Hong Kong opened her doors for the first time and has been welcoming guests and patrons from all over the world in true Peninsula fashion ever since.

Every great lady has a history, and The Peninsula is no exception. Hers is a remarkable story of vision and evolution with the architects who, in the early 1920s drew plans for “the first hotel east of Suez”, doing so at the behest of men whose foresight and confidence in Hong Kong was considered audacious at the time.

Like many grand hotels, The Peninsula is a family business. It all started with two brothers of Jewish-Iraqi descent. Ellis Kadoorie settled in Shanghai in 1880, while his elder brother Elly set himself up in Hong Kong. Over the next two decades, the Kadoorie brothers made their fortunes, achieving success in banking, rubber plantations, electric power utilities and real estate, gaining a major share holding in Hong Kong Hotels Limited.

By the time Sir Ellis was knighted in 1917 (he was also a generous patron of charities, another Kadoorie family tradition which continues to this day), Hong Kong Hotels Limited's prestigious properties included The Peak and the Repulse Bay Hotels in Hong Kong; Astor House, The Palace Hotel and The Majestic in Shanghai; and the Grand Hotel Wagons Lits in Beijing.

12 years after the opening of The Peninsula Hong Kong, the baton was passed to the next generation when Lawrence (later Lord) Kadoorie, son of Sir Elly, became Chairman of the Board, to be replaced in 1946 by his brother Horace. With the loss of the Shanghai properties to the government of the People's Republic of China in 1949, The Peninsula became the unchallenged flagship of the company.


 Opened in 1928 and now one of the world's legendary great hotels, The Peninsula Hong Kong prides itself on having the highest staff-to-guest ratio, one of the lowest staff turnover rates and some of the longest-serving employees of any hotel in Hong Kong.

  • Ms. Rainy Chan
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    General Manager

    Ms. Chan has been General Manager of The Peninsula Hong Kong since 2007. She joined The Peninsula Hotels in 1994, and has held various senior management positions at the company’s properties in Hong Kong, Chicago, New York and Bangkok.

  • Mr. Masahisa Oba
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Hotel Manager

    Masahisa Oba joined The Peninsula Hong Kong as Hotel Manager in June 2014, having spent the past three years as Resident Manager of The Peninsula Tokyo. He has been with the group for seven years and this latest appointment signifies an aspirational move for this career hotelier: “It was a dream of mine to join The Peninsula Hotels’ flagship in Hong Kong”.

  • Ms. Alice Chan

    Director of Guest Relations

    Ms. Chan joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1995 as a Front Desk Agent, and continued to grow her career, holding the post of Front Office Manager in 2002, before being appointed to Director of Guest Relations in 2005.

  • Ms. Echo Zhu
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Chief Concierge

    Ms. Zhu joined The Peninsula Beijing’s Concierge team in 1995, and held the post of Chief Concierge when she departed the hotel in 2007. After attaining her Masters of Business Administration in 2008, she was re-appointed Chief Concierge at The Peninsula Hong Kong that same year.

  • Mr. Raoul Hoelzle
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Rooms

    Mr. Hoelzle spearheads The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Rooms Division, joining the flagship of The Peninsula Hotels following a three and a half year tenure at The Peninsula Bangkok. A seasoned hotelier, Mr Hoelzle’s career in five-star hospitality has spanned Australasia, the UK and Germany, and he brings a wealth of experience to his role at The Peninsula.

  • Mr. Kevin Tsang
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Food and Beverage

    Having worked at The Peninsula Hong Kong since 1991, Mr. Tsang was appointed Director of Food and Beverage at the hotel in 2010. He was briefly transferred to The Peninsula Bangkok in the same capacity before returning to the Group's flagship hotel.

  • Mr. Florian Trento
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Group Executive Chef

    Chef Trento has been with The Peninsula Hong Kong since 1987 and was appointed the Executive Chef in 1991. Chef Trento has held the title of Group Executive Chef since 2013. A Swiss National, he completed his training and apprenticeship in Switzerland, and currently oversees the hotel’s eight restaurants and its impressive team of 135 chefs.

  • Ms. Vindy Lui

    Director of Catering and Conference Services

    Ms. Lui joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2000 as a Catering Executive and continued to grow and develop her career. She was appointed Catering Manager in 2007 and now leads the team, assisting guests with weddings, special events, meetings and more.

  • Ms. Sherona Lau

    Director of Marketing, China South, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sales & Marketing

    A Hong Kong native, Ms. Lau returned to The Peninsula following various senior hospitality marketing roles in China and Hong Kong. Ms. Lau previously enjoyed an eight-year tenure in various Sales and Marketing roles, both at the Regional Office and The Peninsula Bangkok. She brings a wealth of international sales and marketing expertise to The Peninsula, in addition to seasoned know-how in the resort, luxury, and business segments.

  • Mr. Larry Chan
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Sales
    Director of Sales at The Peninsula Hong Kong, Larry Chan is a hospitality veteran, with over 25 years’ experience at luxury property level. Prior to joining the Grande Dame of Hong Kong in June 2015, Larry honed his skills specialising in travel trade sales in lengthy stints at the city’s leading luxury hotel groups, which included a post as Director of Sales before joining The Peninsula.
  • Mr. Fuji Yamase
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Area Director of Sales, Hong Kong and Thailand

    Mr. Yamase began his hospitality career in  1990, and has previously held positions in Hong Kong, Osaka and Kyoto. He was appointed Director of Sales – Japan at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2007.

  • Ms. Olivia Toth
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Brand Communications

    Ms. Toth joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2011 with an impressive track record in luxury hotel communications. She relocated to Hong Kong in 1999, pursuing a career in print publishing and held key senior editorial roles within the luxury lifestyle media prior to her move into hotel public relations.

  • Ms. Winvy Lung
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Public Relations

    Ms. Lung began her career at leading public relations agencies in the US. prior to joining The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2008. She worked her way up the hotel ranks and was appointed Public Relations Manager in 2010. Ms. Lung also spearheads the hotel’s drive to create impactful community programmes through fundraising efforts, as well as meaningful staff volunteering.

  • Ms. Jenny Chan
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Human Resources

    Establishing her human resources career within the fashion sector at leading high street retailers in Hong Kong, Ms. Chan has forged a career in the luxury hotel sector since 2008. Her passion for talent acquisition and retention have distinguished her reputation within the sector and cemented her strategic role at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

  • Ms. Ana Guzman
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Finance
    Hailing from Mexico, Ms Guzman brings a stellar 14 years of five-star city hotel and resort experience globally to the The Peninsula team. Having cut her teeth at a variety of global destinations including Mexico, Canada, Japan and Singapore, Ms Guzman was appointed Director of Finance at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2016.
  • Ms. Crystal Chou
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Revenue Management
    Director of Revenue Management, Crystal Chou joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2016 after a fruitful career in revenue and reservations in five-star luxury hotels across the USA. She brings strategic valuable input to the hotel's senior team in a career that has been cultivated over the past decade.
  • Ms. Vanessa Camacho
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Housekeeping
    Vanessa Camacho began her career in housekeeping in 2006 and has held key positions in a variety of leading five-star luxury hotels and resorts across Asia and globally. Ms Camacho brings her keen eye for detail to The Peninsula Hong Kong, where she was appointed Director of Housekeeping in 2015.
  • Mr. Wilson So
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Regional Director of Engineering
    A Hong Kong native, Wilson So began his career with The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2003 as Assistant Chief Engineer before becoming Chief Engineer in 2006. He is a Chartered Engineer, qualified by The Engineering Council (UK) and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Recently appointed Regional Director of Engineering for The Peninsula Hotels, he is based on-property at the flagship, continuing to spearhead the Engineering team while being responsible for the hotel’s sister properties across Asia.
  • Mr. Lawrence Kwan
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Engineering
    Lawrence Kwan joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2008 as Assistant Chief Engineer and has cut his teeth on a variety of complex projects in his tenure at The Peninsula, including being part of the opening team at The Peninsula in Paris. Mr Kwan was recently appointed Director of Engineering at the Group flagship in 2016.
  • Ms. Ina Soong
    The Peninsula Hong Kong
    Director of Spa
    With over 25 years of international operational spa experience, Ina Soong joined The Peninsula Hong Kong in 2016. Garnering an extensive wealth of knowledge from having led spa teams at various five-star hotels and spas, as well as working in consultancy with leading luxury spa houses, Ms Soong brings a wealth of strategic expertise to The Peninsula Spa team.
