Patina TokyoThe Patina Restaurant Group is a name well-known across the USA, its roster of eateries reaching wide across the country from New York to Florida to Las Vegas, but it is undoubtedly its eponymous Los Angeles fine diner that’s deservedly the most renowned. Having long been the local favourite for best dinner option pre- or post-show at Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, Patina has now finally gotten a little sibling with the PRG’s first foray abroad: Patina Tokyo.
Opened just last month in Shibuya, the prestigious Patina is headed by executive chef Hitoshi Sugiura, who logged hours behind kitchen doors at the LA original, and now brings the signature California-meets-France cuisine a touch of Japanese flair. Think dishes like ‘layer cake of tuna’ with soy onion, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes and yuzu granite, and ‘Mochibuta pork’ with apple, Savoy cabbage and apple butter sauce. Wines are sourced mainly from California vineyards while local sake and sochu feature, and cocktails like the ‘Shibuya Eastside’ blend Beefeater gin with cucumber, mint, shiso and fresh lime make for refreshing sips. It’s all served up in a modern, wood and glass boite that’s reminiscent of the original, although unfortunately this one hasn’t got the inspired architecture surrounds. Still, we’re thrilled about the arrival – Nihon e youkoso!
