Alice + OliviaNew York-based contemporary womenswear label Alice + OIivia has gained a dazzling reputation (not to mention seriously A-list clientele) for its whimsical, feminine range spanning cocktail dresses to chic office-wear, printed with all manner of vibrant colours and patterns. Not surprisingly given its signature aesthetic, the brand boasts a huge Japanese fanbase, catering perfectly as it does to the quirky Tokyo fashion sensibility. Even less surprising, then, is the huge success that the brand’s first Japanese flagship, a two-storey Omotesando flagship, has seen since it opened in December.
In a bright, light-flooded space featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, black and white checked marble floors, printed sofas, and kooky accessories like freestanding birdcages and leopard print rugs, you’ll find the complete collection of A+O, now encompassing kidswear as well as a line of shoes and accessories. From the ‘preppy meets pretty’ spring collection, expect standouts like the runway-favourite voluminous red, black and cream colourblocked skirt, pared down with a crisp white polo, and punk-chic ripped denim dressed up with a button-down and an embellished jacket. Local Tokyoites will also love the selection of footwear and ensemble accents, including bejewelled pumps and striped envelope pouches, as well as the 3D iPhone cases that any true Harajuku girl would go gaga for.
