NY Style In Downtown TK

June 23, 2014
Todd Snyder Townhouse
It was just three years ago that NYC-based menswear designer (and former creative head of Ralph Lauren and GAP) Todd Snyder launched his own eponymous label, and unsurprisingly the seasoned style doyen turned out to have an instant success on his hands. Fast forward to the present day, and in addition to his City Gym pop-up in New York, and a barrage of stockists across the US and indeed the globe, Snyder further cements his burgeoning popularity with the opening of his second standalone boutique, the Townhouse, in Tokyo’s happening Shibuya district.

The handsomely outfitted, three-storey space of grey-on-grey walls and shelving, exposed ducting, and oversized industrial lighting, mirrors the clean aesthetic that defines Snyder’s trademark style. The ground floor is given over to displaying his own uniquely utilitarian line, picks from his collections developed in conjunction with Superior Labor, Champion, Alden and Tricker’s, plus a MOSCOT in-shop pop-up selling limited edition custom shades. Venture down to the basement – a space that mimics the look of a vintage gymnasium – for a curated selection of Snyder sportswear, Aesop skincare products and vintage-inspired Leica cameras. Then, with your newly purchased pieces in hand, it’s time to skip up to the top floor tailoring shop, where skilled clothiers await to fit and customise your threads, and the perfectly placed Town Bar pours whisky and Stumptown coffee for some post-retail sipping.
