Snow Wear

November 23, 2015
Descente Blanc
Shhh. If you listen closely, you can just about hear the pitter patter of soft powder falling upon the craggy peaks and pistes of Hokkaido. Which can only mean one thing, it’s time to bond those bindings, unfog those goggles and get thee to skiwear supremo Descente Blanc’s striking new Daikanyama digs.

Housed in a raw, commercial space, the Schemata Architects-designed boutique bends all the retail rules. Exterior glass walls meet untreated concrete, while whitewashed galvanised steel sheets and rust-red rudimentary beams provide the backdrop against which the wears can hang proud.

And hang they do; from the clever system of fully moveable racks that make the most of the store’s compact capacity. Suspended above head height, each garment can manoeuvre up and down through the space, while upstairs a more traditional shop format is employed, albeit with maximum minimalist flair.

Of course, the reason you’re here is to kit yourself up for a session on the slopes, courtesy of Descente’s beautifully clean-lined apparel. Choose from the full range of cutting-edge, high-performance down jackets and pants arranged by style and colour, as well as the vintage activewear-inspired lifestyle collection that combines an old-world European aesthetic with a decidedly Nippon silhouette. And there’s something for the little ‘uns too, with oh-so adorable mini versions on offer. Swoosh!
