Moja

July 14, 2014
Comfort Food & Craft Beers
Japan may boast a culinary track record more spangled with Michelin stars than Old Glory itself, but when you’re craving some good old-fashioned comfort food, look no further than new American-style concept Moja. From the culinary crack team behind caffeine hotspots Public House and Wired Café comes this three-storey multipurpose space in Shibuya, home to a classic fast food diner, a ‘hardware’-style store, and a cheeky beer hall tucked away in the basement for good measure.

The diner, monikered House, plates up ‘Southern’ favourites such as the signature chicken waffles: a pair of crispy battered fillets served atop two savoury waffles with tabasco and Canadian maple syrup, best accompanied by one of the local brews on tap (or a zingy juice mocktail for the booze-shy). Downstairs, you’ll find the indoor ‘beer garden’ decked out with blonde wood communal tables and a small stage that plays host nightly live music and cabaret acts. Seafood snacks like steamed oysters in a white wine sauce are on offer here, but locals almost certainly piling in for the artisan brews and well-made cocktails. And if you want a token keepsake to mark your Moja moment, stop by ground floor’s all-purpose store, Trading, for fun tees, totes, and vintage bobble. Sip, sup and shop – Moja has it all.
