Le Bar a Vin 52
Upscale Tokyo market chain Seijo Ishii has long been a gourmand’s go-to for laying hands on one of the best selections of imported cheeses, deli goods and wine to be found anywhere in the city, so it seems natural they’d eventually look to expand their offering to cater not only to the ‘take-home’ market, but also to the ‘drink-and-dine-in’ segment too. That day finally came early in the new year, when the sleek Le Bar a Vin 52 debuted in the heart of Azabu Juban, with a name inspired by the number of weeks in a year and thus a subtly-implied promise of an exciting cache for your sampling pleasure over the entire calendar.
And they are certainly off to a good start. The rustic-industrial space of white tiled walls, wooden herringbone flooring, and mismatched hanging lighting currently lists more than 120 bottles in its largely French, Italian and Spanish-dominated menu spanning white, red, rose and sparkling wines. Pair your 2009 Ribbonwood pinot noir or 2008 Chateau Bernadotte with a charcuterie plate, cheese board, or blinis with caviar, or for something more hearty why not try one of the signature pastas or bistro-style Wagyu steak seared to perfection. Drinking and dining in? We thought so.
