Hot New Shops
There’s never a shortage of fab fresh retail temptations in Tokyo, with boutiques as cutting-edge as the creations they curate. If you want to shop till you drop, here are just some of our new favourites…
Street style-siren Ambush began life as a line of experimental, Pop Art-inspired jewellery, created by hip-hop artist Verbal and wife Yoon. Working a bold Tokyo aesthetic, those designs led to today’s graphic, punky unisex fashion collections, made by Japanese craftsmen. The brand has collaborated with Louis Vuitton and Maison Kitsuné, and has just launched its first flagship boutique in Shibuya.
Vinyl lovers can join beanie-clad collectors rifling racks of second-hand sleeves at the record-focused arm of HMV, recently opened in Shinjuku and stocking over 70,000 titles! Whether you’re into rock, reggae, hip-hop, R&B, techno, house or Japanese pop, this store will have you in a spin. As well as tapping into this retro revival, the store sells record-players and so-90s CDs.
Set inside a Ginza car park, Hiroshi Fujiwara's The Parking is an edgy jumble of ace one-off concept shops, occupying the third and fourth basements floors of the Sony Building, at Tokyo’s Sukiyabashi intersection. B3 features unusual toasted sandwiches at Café de Ropé and Bonjour Records for Parking souvenir totes and tees. B4 is home to The Parking Ginza’s casual threads, and street fashion from Denim By, No.813 and Nike, plus retaW’s stylish home scents. Also look out here for rotating fashion and accessories pop-up installations. Rad-chic!
