niko and… Navarre
Over the past few years off-beat lifestyle and fashion brand "niko and…" has established itself as the one-stop staple of Tokyo’s hip set. It made sense, then, that when organic cafe Navarre – hailing from hipster haven Portland in the US – recently opened a Nippon outpost, it chose to set up shop in niko’s new Meiji-dori flagship, an eclectic two-storey emporium of chic apparel and home accents, now with the addition of seasonal salads and veggie-centric plates.

Park your fixie alongside the glassy facade and start on the ground floor, where you can overhaul your wardrobe with simple plaid shirtdresses, straight-cut coats, colourful kicks and Nordic-inspired knits, or outfit your abode with funky faux-stump stools, plush throw pillows and botanical bath products. Shopping sorted, ascend the stairs to find a white and woody bistro that dishes up farm-to-fork cuisine ranging from a flavourful lentil salad to meatier Mediterranean fare like paprika-rubbed pork and saucy chicken curry. For optimum value, go for the two-course lunch menu and tack on a slice of ganache-topped almond cake for a sweet finish, then skip down to niko’s own specialty coffee stand for a quick java hit to fuel your second shop assault.
