Arch & Sole

May 11, 2015
A+S
Tokyo’s streetwear mainstay Soph has certainly been busy of late, marking its 15th year of outfitting style-savvy fellas via high-profile collabs with brands including concept cool kid Maison Kitsuné, cashmere king Lucien Pellat-Finet, and urban artist Nick Walker. But now the cult multi-label stable is taking its stash to the next level (quite literally) with the opening of a new floor above its mod-minimalist Harajuku flagship.

Dubbed A+S (or Architecture + Sneakers), the extension is just as it says with a clean-lined fit-out designed by renowned interiors savant Nobuo Araki, which provides the perfect showcase space for the tight edit of cutting-edge men’s footwear.

Pad down the long hallway that leads from the slatewood entrance to find yourself inside a ‘70s-style living room set-up (stacked stone walling has never looked so smart). Inside, a curated selection of Saturdays Surf lace-ups and Cole Haan leather Oxfords line the timber shelves.

Gents looking for some old-school cool can slip their toes into a pair of all-white high-tops, which will stay as pearly bright as a Hollywood smile with the aid of Jason Markk leather protector. Or, if you’re after soles that are more suited to sport than swagger, opt for a pair of ultra lightweight Nike runners in hard-to-source colours and styles.

Need some gear to go with your new kicks? Select caps and tees are also on sale, or just nip downstairs to Soph for army jackets and indigo denims. Edgy ensemble complete!
