With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, lovebirds the city over will be swooping in fast to secure one of Tokyo’s top romantic tables. And one highly coveted spot – at any time of year, come to that – is long-time LUXE favourite and Michelin-starred teppanyaki grill, Ukai-tei, which has been flipping and flambeing top-notch seasonal fare in Omotesando since 2007.

No expense has been spared in the dramatic, deep red interiors, replete with striated marble floors, an impressive art collection including glasswork by C.19th artist René Lalique, and woods salvaged from the 150-year-old house of a Kanazawa merchant. Marvel as the chefs deftly whip up exquisite signature ingredients on the long iron griddle, from marbled kuroge washu (Japanese black beef) to rock-salt-steamed abalone with seaweed butter. And once the grilled portion of the feast is over, guests are escorted to the opulent dessert room for… well, exactly that. Fawn over a decadent à la carte selection that includes chiffon cake with blueberries, a chocolate mousse with hazelnuts and ganache, and a pretty range of petit fours being paraded teasingly on a dessert trolley. Ukai-tei is undoubtedly your best bet at eliciting that all-important ‘Yes’!
