The Rolling Stones
There are a handful of bands that truly define the golden era of rock as we know it – Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles, among others – but none of them remain quite as relevant, with their finger as firmly on the C.21st pulse, as the Rolling Stones. Despite reaching their musical peak in the 70s, the iconic British rockers continue to gallivant across the world with huge sell-out tours, clearly intent on keeping their beloved brand of rock n’ roll alive until the end. And so this year, in a toast to 2014, the Stones take Asia Pacific on their ‘14 On Fire’ tour.
Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie kicked things off last week in Abu Dhabi, with stops in Tokyo and Macau following – but next week sees them take Mainland China for the first time in nearly 8 years with a one-night only show at Shanghai’s Mercedes-Benz Arena on March 12. Following their recent gong for ‘Best Live Band’ by renowned music mag NME, the Stones are keen to keep their crown, and the crowd can expect to sing along to a setlist including classics like “Gimme Shelter” and “Paint it Black”, plus a number of surprise cover songs to keep fans on their toes. For resident rock buffs, this one is certainly not to be missed – who knows when they’ll be back?
