Ultimate New Year’s Eve

Shanghai’s NYE Hotspots

Nowhere in Northeast Asia boasts nightlife quite like sexy Shang, so dress to impress (this city does glam, not grunge), gather your group, and line up your plans early to get the most out of the year’s buzziest night out: NYE.

Beat the door policy to access exclusive scarlet-hued boite Le Baron, the swanky outpost of graffiti artist Andre Saraiva’s Parisian club, attracting cashed-up and cool locals and expats. Pop Perrier-Jouët at your table, hit the dance floor, or chill out on the rooftop terrace or in the karaoke (KTV) rooms. Thrice DMC China Champion DJ Wordy, Shang-based producer Tsunano and guests spin sets for New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, with a live performance by Angel Mo.

Bundside beaut Glam is a chic dining lounge and bar, ideal for toasting 2017 in a jewel-bright velvet armchair with fab cocktails (pick and mix your own gin, tonic and toppings), fine wines and global share plates, curated by the M team. A crystal-curtain entry sets the scene, with a vintage-style bar, striking art and skyline views. Kick off with oysters and wrap up with soft-serve ice-cream. Book ahead for the special NYE dinner, accompanied by live tunes.

Rated house and techno night Minimalist takes over unpretentious small club/bar DADA Lounge this New Year’s Eve for DJ-spun fun, welcoming UK guest mixmeister Jigsaw (known for popular turns at Britain’s electronic music-focussed Gottwood Festival). Support acts get things rolling from 9pm, with free entry and wallet-pleasing drinks guaranteeing a good crowd. Bottoms up!
