Already with outposts in cities from New Orleans to Kansas City, Nashville to Chicago, and Savannah to Baltimore – prolific all-American steakhouse Ruth’s Chris has just opened its latest outpost in... Shanghai. Joining international branches as far afield as Dubai, San Salvador and Singapore, this is the first Mainland opening for the iconic restaurant chain – and about time too, as the Chinese are known to enjoy a fine piece of meat, a fact the stylish dinnertime crowd here can keenly attest to.

Not your average steakhouse, Ruth’s Chris isn’t a laid-back, t-shirt and jeans type eatery – instead it’s known as a luxury, fine-dining experience – and the brand new Shanghai setting is indeed extravagant. With prime Bund-side position and neighbours like Glamour Bar, it’s a multi-roomed space with pristine white linens, herringbone wood flooring, and plush leather booths. On the plate (which is, in line with the brand’s tradition, heated to 500° Fahrenheit), six different cuts of imported, grain-fed Australian Wagyu – NY Strip, ribeye, T-bone, filet, bone-in ‘cowboy’ ribeye, and porterhouse for two – are served with classic sides like creamed spinach and crab cakes, and complemented with desserts like banana cream pie and apple crumb tart. Just like they make ‘em in the Big Easy!
