Puck-er Up for Cali Fare with Flair

August 31, 2015

Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill

When it comes to celebrity chef-run restaurants Shanghai’s foodies have a degustation of dining options that they can sink their teeth into, from Jean Georges and Nobu to Umberto Bombana’s Otto e Mezzo. But, in this insatiable city, there is always a seat at the table for another culinary luminary. Particularly when it is none other than Austrian-born American heavyweight Wolfgang Puck.

For his first Sino outpost the Spago maestro has opted to stay true to his Med-leaning mod Cali cuisine with Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, a swish Xintiandi supster serving a classic combination of pizzas, pastas and crowd-pleasing bistro fare.

Sitting pretty in an expansive brick building, the eatelier keeps the decor as simple and sophisticated as the menu itself, with bare bulbs, a woody ceiling installation and cushy orange tub chairs to support you through the neat selection of a-la-carte offerings.

Whet your appetite with a pre-prandial cocktail – go for the Pear-fect Martini – before moving on to starters like grilled octopus with romesco sauce or succulent seafood linguine.

Meanwhile, mains are American in size and style with hefty helpings of seared steak and fries, turkey burgers and almond crusted salmon.

Just be sure to you save a square inch of space for one of the tempting desserts – Valrhona chocolate soufflé, anyone? Don’t be a schmuck, get down to Puck!
