Preppy Queen

Tory Burch

American fashion designer Tory Burch is a lady who requires little introduction. Ranking 79 in Forbes’ 2014 list of ‘100 Most Powerful Women’ in the world, her eponymous womenswear label is instantly recognisable for its bright, preppy-boho style. Shanghai’s tai tais were therefore delighted when it was announced the city would be home to Burch’s first China flagship – the world’s largest – sprawling 9,645 sq ft across two storeys.

With its seafoam drapes, teal sofas and decorative fireplace, the boutique in Jing’An’s Kerry Centre exudes the well-heeled home-like ambi found in all Tory Burch stores. So it’s almost as though you’re browsing through a friend’s wardrobe while perusing the current collection, which was inspired by artist Françoise Gilot and the time she spent as Picasso’s muse in Vallauris.

On the lower floor, it’s bags and shoes galore with distinctive straw totes and leather crossbody slings; woven leather flats and colour-blocked mules. Head upstairs for Burch’s RTW collection, where you’ll espy crêpe de Chine button-down blouses, graphic jacquard pencil skirts and bright tweed dresses hanging pretty along the racks. Hello, new ensemble.
