With Asia’s contemporary fashion scene continuously welcoming fresh new homegrown labels along with a growing demand for this quality local product, Singaporean stylista Georgina Soh sought to create an outlet for the niche between high street chains and luxury labels, opening last summer her Singapore and Shanghai-based online store ModeinAsia. With a starting roster of 12 regional brands hailing from China, Hong Kong, and Korea among others, ModeinAsia quickly proved so popular that a few short months later Soh opened a brick and mortar boutique in Shanghai’s shopping central, which has since February located to an even bigger and better space on Nanchang Lu.
On the racks you’ll find Hong Kong-based label Aijek, specialising in functional femme pieces like twisted strap silk tanks and lace insert shift dresses; Korean brand J Apostrophe, with a current offering spanning delicate basics like chiffon knits and asymmetrical miniskirts; and London/Bangkok label Lalalove, whose futuristic designs include the peplum ‘Robot Bones’ top and statement-making ‘Pineapple’ ruffled one-shoulder dress. Accessories like Miss Deco’s mother of pearl necklaces and mineral rock cuffs are fab for completing an outfit, and quirky extras like the line of printed silk kimonos also make great, locally-sourced gifts. ModeinAsia, made in Asia!
