With a diverse portfolio of successful Shanghai F&B ventures to her name (Mexican Cantina Agave, veggie-haven Sproutworks and Boxing Cat Brewery to name a few), it’s fair to say restaurateur Kelley Lee set the bar rather high when it came to launching her ‘next big thing’. But the seasoned pro proves she and partner Lee Tseng have still got vision in spades with their latest gastropub venture, Liquid Laundry. Occupying a huge 7,500 sq ft space, LL’s multi-part offering fuses industrial edge with design savvy to create inviting lounge, bar, pizza parlor, pub and dining room areas dotted with houndstooth couches, hexagonal tiles, exposed ductwork, and lashings of metal furniture and accents.
In the kitchen, chef Sean Jorgensen’s playful menu draws on global influences from the Mediterranean to the Middle East. Standout dishes include the Hannibal Lecter Special, a bun sandwich stuffed with pork pastrami made from face bacon and a honey mustard sauce, Jorgensen’s house-made charcuterie, crispy-fried pork trotter fritters, and wood-fired pizza topped with African lamb sausage. Referencing sibling Boxing Cat, Liquid Lounge also houses an on-site micro-brewery, where several original ales make for perfect accompaniment. We like fruity Tripel Threat with hints of ginger and Sichuan peppercorn. Cheers!
