Fabulous Farmers’ Market
Jiashan Saturday Market
If fresh produce and artisan foods are your passion, then eat and shop local at Shanghai’s Jiashan Saturday Market. Held on the first and third Saturdays of every month, from 11am to 4pm, this open-air market near Shaoxing Lu in the Xuhui district touts goods from around 30 inspiring food and drink producers and lifestyle vendors, plus there’s atmospheric live music throughout the afternoon.
The first and best Saturday market in the city, Jiashan was founded in 2012 by Amelia Heaton-Renshaw as a farmers’ market intended to bring quality, locally produced food to a savvy expat and local crowd. Since then it has bagged awards for its creative mix of offerings and support for regional businesses, helped by its evocative setting in an old factory courtyard in the heart of the French Concession.
Regular products include delicious jams and preserves from Amelia's, dry-aged ribeye steaks and burgers from Monster Steaks butchery and deli (which also imports organic virgin olive oil), and Jonas Emil’s freshly craft-roasted beans, which you can either take home or enjoy aero-pressed on the spot. Team your cuppa with covetable cakes and sweet pies from The British Kitchen or Ben’s Bakery, an experienced Kiwi pastry chef. Also look out for Polish treats from Pierogi Ladies, Lebanese delicacies from Eli, European breads from Shanghai Young Bakers, handcrafted beer from Westwood Ales, and wine and craft beers from BottlesXO.
