Italian Cuisine, Gucci Style

September 28, 2015
1921 Gucci

Ah, 1921, the good old days. Shanghai was swinging, jazz was jiving and change was in the air. Incidentally, it was also the year that Italy gave us Gucci. It was undoubtedly a great time.

However, it turns out 2015 isn’t so bad either, as Frida Giannini and her luxury lovelies have decided that this is the year to expand their ever-stylish empire to include the 1921 Gucci restaurant.

And they have chosen Shanghai – with all her gleaming modernity and dynamism – as the dishy desti for this world first. Repping a high-end lifestyle experience that extends beyond just retail (which is so C.20th, dahling), the 600-square-metre diner serves up a Tuscan-inspired taste of the old country.

Highlights include indulgent pasta dishes – like the tagliatelle topped with foie gras and morel mushrooms – as well as bang-for-buck grilled beef tenderloin with roasted aubergine, mint tomatoes and pureed potatoes. And the presentation? The label’s trademark attention to detail has been translated to the plate, ovviamente.

As to be expected, pride in appearance also extends to the rather spiffy surrounds, which are Gucci through and through (right down to the branded cutlery). Teal velvet armchairs invite you to park your posterior and admire the brushed gold accents, black marble surfaces and beautiful people. Mwah!
