Cult interiors brand HAY brings a touch of Scandi-chic to Shanghai with the opening of its very first standalone store in Asia. Having previously garnered a loyal following via local stockists like 10 Corso Como and Design Republic, the Danish design label ups the ante with a full range of minimalist furniture, playful homewares and smart stationery sure to win over the city’s most stylish nest-featherers.
Set on Taikang Lu’s trendy design strip, the soaring, glass-fronted studio is every bit as striking as the goods it showcases, with airy, seafoam green walls, poured concrete floors and an outdoor deck housing a small summer café perfect for a mid-shop flop in the warmer months. Co-founder and creative director Rolf Hay has collaborated with international designers to curate a lineup of sleek yet functional pieces, including moulded plywood desks by Parisian brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and pared-back beechwood chairs by Hee Welling. In addition to scattered clusters of furniture, shoppers will also find shelf-fitted pillars packed with eye-catching home accessories like polka-dot table linens, block-print bookends, dip-dyed glassware and colourful felt bath rugs. There is also a neat cache of almost too-nice-to-write-on paper goods including Clara von Zweigbergk stationery. What are you waiting for? Make Hay-ste!
