Skating With Scenery

December 24, 2015
Trocadéro On Ice
Aaah, la Tour Eiffel. Is there a more quintessential experience for any visitor to Paris than standing atop the iron lattice landmark? Perhaps not, but right now there is just as much merriment to be had at the foot of the city’s icon in the form of seasonal spectacular, Le Village de Noël du Trocadéro.

Now in its sixth year, the annual event will once again see the area just across the Seine from the famed tower transformed into a winter wonderland complete with an outdoor 300-sq-m ice rink and a Christmas market made up of more than one hundred wooden, chalet-style stalls.

Undoubtedly, the best time to skate over is just after dark when you can don some blades and throw some layback spins while taking in the stunning sight of Gustave’s twinkling tower.
Gliding done, slide over to the quaint Yule village for some vin chaud (mulled wine), hot chocolate, gooey cheesy tartiflette and traditional Christmassy trinkets. Or if all those axel kicks have your hankering for a more substantial feed, there are several alpine-inspired restaurants with warming Swiss sups and superb views.

Want even more frozen fun? Then cut a path to the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, where you’ll find the City of Lights’ highest rink, or try the tres belle Village de Noël des Champs Élysées.
