With love locks on bridges and Champagne corks a-poppin’, Paris is nothing if not romantic. Where better, then, to snap up some serious jewellery and perhaps even pop the question?
If you’ve got the urge to splurge and a mission to seduce, then rock up to Repossi. Founded in Turin in 1920, this family-owned avant-garde jewellery house has recently refitted its store in a World Heritage-listed building on none-more-chic Place Vendôme, and the result is astonishing.
A world away from your usual sedate jewellery boutique, the refit is by radical Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, whose practice OMA has been integral to fashion brand Prada’s global stores. The result looks like a cross between a high-tech spaceship and a luxe contemporary art gallery, with gleaming metallic surfaces, an angled staircase linking its three floors, and abstract sculptures by American icon Donald Judd. Even the black-and-white-speckled terrazzo-style flooring is a wow.
Creative director Gaia Repossi’s jewellery is also a marriage of art and architecture, influenced by the works of Richard Serra, Le Corbusier, Brutalism and Bauhaus. Her trademarks are rings, cuffs, earrings and chokers with modern, minimal motifs and innovative, complex forms. Repossi’s ‘Suspensions’ collection takes inspiration from Alexander Calder’s mobiles, ‘Berbere’ riffs on tribal tattoos, and new earrings range ‘Staple’ channels stitches and staples. Limited edition, unique and bridal pieces can be yours too. Just say, “I do!”
