When in Paris, one should seek out the city’s many simple delights – and there are arguably none more simple or delightful than an indulgent champagne cocktail on a balmy evening, as you watch the sun set over the City of Lights. So, where to? Well, as far as Parisian sundowner spots go, Ménilmontant rooftop bar Le Perchoir (‘the roost’) boasts some of the best sips and city vistas in this town. With cushion-strewn pallet couches, potted herbs, and relaxed vibes aplenty, this charming terrace is a firm fave with visitors and locals alike, who come to soak up the setting sun and ogle the sweeping views from the Champ de Mars to Sacré Coeur.
Arrive early to locate the unmarked entrance, then whisk up to the 7th floor where you’ll find a vine-shaded bar serving up classic cocktails, boutique beers and local wines. If you can, nab a nook by the railing for prime-time panoramas, and tuck into bar snacks like wood-fired pizzas and modern Med nibbles if you’re peckish. Later, sate any lingering tummy rumbles one floor down at chef Benoît Dumas’s buzzy restaurant, a 40-seat industrial space serving up shareable Provençal fare from a weekly menu (but pssst, the signature seared tuna potato chips are always on offer). That’s how you rule the roost!
