The Musée d’Orsay is a renowned ‘must see’ for any visitor to Paris, but perhaps not quite so well-known is long-time LUXE favourite and essential viewing in equal measure, Muriel Grateau. Secreted away just around the corner from this grand dame of museums, MG is an interior aficionado’s go-to, a chic gallery and shop showcasing the designer’s groundbreaking, eponymous collection of porcelain, linen, glassware and jewellery.
The simplistic, white-washed space takes its colour and texture from the wares it holds, like a rainbow of linen napkins in more than 100 shades, and hand-poured, hand-painted cups, bowls and plates ranging in finish from high gloss, mottled and mirrored, to strikingly-paired matte hues. Meanwhile, her glassware takes on a more muted palette of smoky greys and dark burgundies, shaped into both wine- and water-glass iterations. And though she was formerly a fashion doyenne who turned her hand to tableware more than 20 years ago, MG has recently returned to her roots with a covetable jewellery line including cocktail rings, statement necklaces, earrings and cuffs carved from quartz, onyx, and black-lacquered stones, and smattered with diamonds and black sapphires. Pop in on a Saturday for a spot of post-museum retail therapy, and you may just spy the stylish Madame Grateau herself. Formid-table!
