Men’s Outfitters in Paris

January 29, 2018
In the wake of last month’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week, here’s a guide to the city’s top gents outfitters. From sharp suits and bespoke boots to handsome hats, these ateliers and concept shops will have you ship-shape and suave in a jiffy.

Start off with a jaunt to heritage shirt maker Charvet in Place Vendôme. Counting royalty and politicos among its loyal following, the brand (established in 1838), is famed for its ready-to-wear and bespoke shirts and suits. Elegant and refined, this really is cats PJs of Parisian tailoring.

Once suited, it’s time to get booted; step inside Dimitri Bottier considered one of the best custom cobblers in the world. Working from inside the Crockett & Jones store, Dimitri uses only the finest finishes, materials and techniques to produce bespoke or made-to-order shoes. With local and international clients vying for his services you might be looking at a three-six-month wait time, so order well in advance if it’s for a special occasion.

Much-lauded milliner Maison Michel has been producing high-end titfers since 1936, and is a one of Paris’ speciality ateliers, having joined Chanel’s prestigious Métiers d'Art portfolio in 1997. Combining traditional methods with contemporary design and achingly cool innovation, this is a one-stop headwear shop for discerning hommes.

For a striking look à la mode, tailor Rives is your go-to for custom suits and seasonal collections. Hip, with a hint of heritage, this dapper label has a stellar rep for its sharp, simple and classic silhouettes cut with with a dash of edge. Sophistication just went up a notch.

Located in the trendy Le Marais neighbourhood, all-round A-gamer Archive 18-20 is a spin-off from Parisian menswear stalwart, Ly Adams. This design-centric studio shelves ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and gadgets, both timeless (like trench coats) and cutting-edge. Shop to it!
