New York may have SoHo, but Paris has SoPi, the chic South Pigalle quartier in the 9th arrondissement, and now it has top table Le Mansart smack bang in the neighbourhood’s beating heart. With a kitchen plating up hearty American comfort fare, deco-style marble bar serving fabulous cocktails, and summer terrace perching pretty for people-watching and long coffees, it’s small wonder that this restaurant has instantly become a smash hit with the style set – thanks to the insider team who brought Paris other dining destinations like Le Sans Soucis, Le Floréal and Chez Jeannette.
At the bar, cocktails including dirty vodka martinis, champagne and calvados concoctions, and house-infused absinthes come courtesy of US-import David West, who divides his time between Le Mansart and Le Floréal. The food menu, meanwhile, reflects the recent resurgence in simple café-bar fare with an offering including ham and emmental toasties, rotisserie chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs with frites. The place positively hums at night, with stylish patrons spilling onto the pavement, but we recommend arriving early, nabbing a table in the late afternoon sun, and kicking back with a glass of wine as the atmosphere builds, the music heats up and the burgers start flying off the pass. Parfait!
