L'Entrée des Artistes
With a kind of listless je ne sais quoi that could only be pulled off by the French, the understated décor of hip hang L’Entrée des Artistes involves little more than peeling walls adorned with a lone Gil Scott-Heron poster, a faux-wood laminate bar and a few warped candles. But the laidback bohemian finish is not what has been pulling in the stylistas over the past few years, it’s the craft cocktails, mon cher, and some of the city’s very best, no less.
If you’re not in the mood to stand and sip it’s best to arrive early and snag one of the handful of worn wood tables or pull up a stool at the bar and let co-owner Fabien Lombardi (an alumni of Experimental Cocktail Club) talk you through the extensive selection of barrel-aged liquors. Nifty Negronis are the house specialty with offerings ranging from a simple vintage varietal made with Carpano Antica 1785 to the exotic Sidamo infused with coffee-scented vermouth, tobacco cognac and rye bitters. Oenophiles aren’t forgotten either with a chalkboard of organic French drops, plus a compact and complementary menu of haute snacks like foie gras, saucisson and cassoulet. Team that with a smooth jazz soundtrack and the repartee of the regulars and you’ve got your quintessential Parisian local. Santé!
