Summer of Jazz

June 08, 2017
Paris Jazz Festival
The French have long enjoyed an intense affair with jazz, and there’s no better time to feel the love than during summer when the popular Paris Jazz Festival hits town. One of Europe’s biggest and most important music fests, it takes place over seven weekends of foot-stomping, finger-snappin’ jazz, with 24 concerts promising dreamy distraction.

The festival’s hub is Parc Floral de Paris in the 12th, a pretty flower-and-lake-dotted park within Bois de Vincennes, ideal for sun-kissed, airy picnics while listening to mellow tunes. Each weekend whisks you away to different stylistic or geographic worlds – from Africa to Latin Jazz, acoustic, fusion, blues and pop – while also celebrating the creative input of French talent to the scene.
Weekend 1 focusses on French Songs, with performances by Thomas Savy’s all-star ensemble (Archipel, 17 Jun), Olivier Ker Ourio featuring Sylvain Luc (French Songs, 17 Jun), and a group of jazz musicians playing the melodies of the late Alain Bashung (Laisse Venir, 18 Jun). Weekend 2 celebrates Beats, the heart murmur of jazz and its diverse rhythms (24-25 Jun).

Musical games and workshops are on offer every Saturday and Sunday (2-7pm), alongside Sunday concerts on the Jazz Barge (2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 Jul). Get ready for a jazzy summer and a fab #PJF. You pay entry to the park, but concerts are free, so get in early. Unmissable!
