Walk This Way… West Village

It’s an oh-so charming hood, until you get trampled by those darn Carrie-crazed tour groups, and it becomes more Vexed and the City. But stress not! Follow LUXE on this quirk-chic meander around our fave West Village shop n’ flop spots... Magnolia Bakery not included.

Begin your district totter on Greenwich Avenue, where master ceramicist turned interiors maven Jonathan Adler’s store is stacked with plenty of Deco-inspired furny and faux retro home-garb for chez vous. Take a right and saunter down to Christopher Street to find something for the patient hubby in tow at Leffot, with trig men’s shoes from Aubercy, Ed Green and more. Then it’s over to J Mueser, a plush mini-clubhouse offering beaut bespoke suiting for you both. Push on to stationery stalwart Greenwich Letterpress, who specialise in off-the-shelf or customisable literati accessories.

Famished? On the next corner is old-fashioned dinette Jeffrey’s Grocery where you’ll find a full raw bar, sarnies and other bistro-style bites, plus a well-deserved glass of bubbly. Exit right and continue on Christopher until you’re at the corner of Bleecker, keeping peepers peeled for the divine botanical creations at Ovando. If she’s not tied up flourishing NY’s hottest homes, haute hotels or in the madness of Fashion Week, Sandra may find the time to fix you one of her most exquisite bouquets.

For some final AmEx damage, twirl down Bleecker for Cynthia Rowley’s femme frocks and boho-chic accoutrements, then zip left to the corner of Perry Street for Robert Marc’s modish eyewear. On the opposite corner is Marc Jacobs’ wham-glam debut beauty emporium, and the next block up you’ll find more body bounty at Bond No. 9, including the scentsational ‘Bleecker Street’, inspired by… doh! Shopped out? You must be drier than a Quaker’s convention so beeline to Hudson to find the glowing ‘Psychic’ sign, indicating Employees Only, the city’s top secret sipper. You’re unlikely to find your fortune, but pull up a pew in this low-lit, wood-panelled, vintage lair for mustached mixologists, artisanal libations, and decadent bar snacks aplenty. Phew, haven’t you done well!
