Even tomboys will go gaga for the nail art at NYC’s Valley. From red-and-white Campbell’s Soup can designs riffing on Andy Warhol to surfy blue waves and sparkly ice-queen snow patterns, there’s no end to the “digital” creativity.
Now downtown cool-girl salon Valley has arrived in the Upper East Side, making Uptown its third location after adding Chelsea in 2014. The salon known for its super-fly nail art is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year so expect fun one-off specials and events.
Not your average nails, the unconventional adornments here include marble looks, barely-there negative space motifs, summery gals in bikinis, and rainbow foil effects. If cute is your bag, then get some fierce Fifi rabbits on your digits. Graphic designer types might prefer lightning bolts, eyes, tribal brights, stripes and stars. The team takes inspiration from artists, such as Japanese polka dot-aholic Yayoi Kusama, and TV shows like Game of Thrones, even collaborating with fashion brands (recently crafting custom styles to complement The Volon’s killer bags).
Nail art sessions last for 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes (see Valley’s Insta feed and search hashtags #valley15, #valley30 and #valley45 to get an idea of what can be achieved in each time frame). Manis, pedis, gel polishes, extensions and polish changes are also on offer to update lucky fingers and toes, with the ethical salon only using toxin-free polish. Razzle dazzle…
