Furniture and lighting whizz Tom Dixon is as rock ‘n’ roll as design gets. It was while recovering from a motorcycle accident that the maverick British talent first got inspired by design, teaching himself how to weld industrial-style pieces. His CV spans UK homewares store Habitat and iconic Finnish brand Artek, but it’s with his own eponymous label that Dixon has really made his global mark. When not launching covetable chairs, futuristic lamps, and luxe accessories – from stationery to candles, scent diffusers and barware – Dixon likes to break out his guitar for impromptu design festival gigs.
Following the rave success of Tom Dixon’s first NYC showroom last year, the homewares label has moved into a bigger and better space on SoHo’s Howard Street. The four-storey building is an Aladdin’s Cave of creativity, allowing space for serious shopping and experimentation. The interior channels Dixon’s trademark mix of raw, industrial feels and modern glamour, with exposed, distressed brick walls contrasted with sleek surfaces and wooden floors.
Part of a fast-revitalising SoHo, attracting like-minded fashion, food and style brands, Dixon’s store showcases fresh products aimed at trade and the public alike, as well as a basement filled with inspiring prototypes, material samples and decorative buys that will rotate regularly. Look out for the new ‘Curve’ and ‘Fade’ pendant lights in signature sheeny metallics, and chunky flat-pack ‘Offcut’ stools. Prepare to be wowed…
