The SkylarkJust weeks ago we wrote about the Gotham West Market bringing NYC’s hungry hordes out to Midtown West, and further cementing the neighbourhood’s status as an up-and-coming happy hour hub is glamorous cocktail haven Skylark, opened last October and occupying three floors high above the Garment District. Offering panoramic Manhattan and Hudson River views that will wow first-time visitors (and that even lifelong New Yorkers couldn’t tire of), Skylark boasts a rooftop bar sure to see plenty of action as springtime looms closer, and fabulous floor-to-ceiling windows, tufted velvet banquettes, and a private pool room downstairs.
From David Rabin, the veteran behind Jimmy at the James and the Lambs Club, Skylark features cocktails by mixologist Johnny Swet, including the eponymous ‘Skylark’ with Hendrick’s gin, Zu vodka, St Germain, blue curacao, fresh lemon and brandied cherry; and the ‘New York State of Mind’ with Laird’s bonded apple brandy, Pama pomegranate liqueur, ginger beer, lime, and Hudson Valley apple. In the way of bar bites, chef Cassandra Quinlan-Ashford dishes up creative mac & cheese cupcakes with smoked tomato chutney, beef sliders (try them Skylark-style with onion jam, gorgonzola and arugula), and smoked Granita wedges with mojito and limoncello. It’s worth coming for the view alone, but ace drinks and food make this a tantalising triple-hit.
