Personnel Touch

August 01, 2013
Personnel of New York

In a brisk and relentless shopping megopolis such as New York, packed to the eaves as it is with boutiques and chain stores alike, there’s nary a space for another prosaic retail installation, but fashion vets Kristi Paras and Emilio Ramirez have an apparent edge over their peers.

After heading projects on both East and West coasts, the dynamic duo have enlisted bi-coastal designer pals for their first joint venture, Personnel of New York.

Granted, this is another curated store in the West Village selling clothing, footwear and accessories, but hold onto your hats ladies and gents, for Personnel stocks LA labels heretofore unseen in Manhattan.

One such example is Objects Without Meaning, touting multi-coloured shorts and oversize batik blouses for women, while seldom-seen labels like Black Crane showcase breezy pastel frocks and avant garde shoes come courtesy of Reality Studio.

Also new to the city for men are Taylor Stitch’s handmade Californian shirts and Generic Man’s dapper suede-canvas brogues. Curious homeware such as shibori dip-dyed sheets by Upstate, Izola’s apothecary soaps and unconventional scents from CB I Hate Perfume neatly line the raw birchwood shelves hand-wrought by Ramirez himself.

In fact, the talented former art director conceptualised the entire space and even turned his hand to crafting some of the store’s homeware for that extra Personnel touch!
