Like your suiting with just a soupçon of Savile? You’re in luck, Chuck. London-trained Aussie tailor Patrick Johnson has opened his first US outpost on SoHo’s stylish Spring Street. Saunter up to his hushed, luxuriant second-floor studio for MTM custom suits and shirts.
Known for putting the dapper back into the Australian fashion vernacular, Johnson’s trig tailoring and bob-on trends have long been a favourite with the LUXE Melbourne and Sydney editors. But don’t expect stuffy outfitting here. The headline is innovative weaving, with all suits sporting a contempo, lightweight, sportive, supple and luxurious feel – taking you from business meeting to breezy summer cocktail party.
Shirts come in a spectrum of covetable, understated colours, with both hand- and machine-made offerings, and influences ranging from British restraint to classic Italian to coastal chic.
Interiors are just as stylish, with all of P.Johnson’s boutiques decked out by his clever interior designer wife to feel like inspiring homes. The double-height space contrasts white walls, sofas and side tables with graphic black accents, from curving skinny clothes rails to dark-edged mirrors, picture frames and industrial lights. Ties, ranked from light to dark, and rows of crisp shirts in perfect blues, greys and whites line sculptural open shelves, backdropped by striking fashion, oceanic and urban photography. Book a fitting and find out what all the fuss is about…
