New York Comedy Festival
Montreal's Just for Laughs might be larger, and the Edinburgh Fringe may have had them rolling in the aisles for much longer, but when it comes to getting the big names of stand up, no city delivers quite like the Big Apple. This year’s 11th annual New York Comedy Festival promises to be a positive hoot of big hitter hilarity with performances from Bill Maher, Amy Schumer, Bill Cosby and Nick Offerman, plus comedic competitions, gala nights and panel discussions featuring the wry writers behind The Late Show With David Letterman and Amy Poehler’s Broad City.
The 5-day festival will include more than 100 events across venues, from Carnegie Hall and the Beacon Theatre to the iconic Caroline’s comedy club, but the opening night benefit in aid of servicemembers and veterans, Stand Up For Heroes, looks set to be an early highlight with Louis C.K., John Oliver and Jon Stewart all confirmed on the bill. Want to catch the Comedy Award winners of tomorrow before their big breaks? Head to the hotly-tipped Comics to Watch showcase, or if one night of giggles just isn’t enough, keep the gags coming all week long with a Fan Pass that will get you into five or ten shows without any pesky queuing for entry – laugh on!
5-9 November, 2014. See the website for full show listings and tickets.
