Seasonal and local are the culinary buzzwords of the moment, and it’s easy to take those twin tags for granted, but you’ll definitely be appreciating them afresh at inviting NY eatery Loring Place.
Dan Kluger, the epic talent behind ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina, is finally stepping out alone with this gorgeous understated restaurant, housed in an 1848 Greenwich Village building. And who can say no to a night out in the Village? The inspiring menus here shine a light on the regional farmers and producers Kluger has befriended over 20 years of frequenting Union Square Greenmarket, and those relationships pay off on the palate.
Produce-driven, seasonal American small plates include crispy, spiced cauliflower, leeks and pears, and tuna tartare – fresh and unpretentious. Large share plates feature heartier options, such as pan-roasted Arctic char with parsnips, basil and butternut squash, or try delicious dishes drawn from the wood-burning grill and oven. Pastas include Gemelli with Maine crab meat, lemon, jalapeños and mint, while pizzas tick off interesting ingredients from dates to Brussels sprouts and meatballs. Desserts such as house-made ice-cream and quirkily named baked monkey bread entice you to linger, as do handcrafted cocktails, artisanal beers and simpatico wines.
Minimal, modern urban-rustic interiors are welcoming, with whitewashed brick walls, pale wood tables, and pops of colour from orange window frames. It’s a celebration of New York, so join the party…
