Funky Food Hall

March 06, 2017
Gotham Market At The Ashland

If you liked Gotham West Market in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen, you’ll love its new sister food hall in Brooklyn. Gotham Market At The Ashland features seductive stalls aplenty and even more sit-down dining and drinking. Food markets are the new rock ‘n roll!

Skip over to Fort Greene for this staggering, lofty, blackened steel-braced multi-concept food hip-spot. There’s almost 400 seats indoors, plus alfresco pews (handy for sunny spring days), with eight restaurants and bars, and a rotating pop-up.

Tasty highlights include Flip Bird’s fried or rotisserie Amish chickens; Mason Jar & MJ Station’s Southern house-smoked ribs and bourbon for barbecue aficionados; Boqueria’s Cava with pulpo a la plancha for tempting tapas; and Apizza Regionale’s Neapolitan-style brick-oven pizzas. Seafood seekers should sashay to The Crabby Shack, a six-month pop-up offshoot of the beloved Crown Heights original, to savour crab tacos, crab cake sliders and lobster rolls, as well as banana pudding and rum cakes for dessert. Coming soon is brekkie-desti Egg @ The Bird, by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que founder John Stage, offering killer coffee and creative sandwiches on house-made bialys (a Polish variation on a bagel), as well as granola, seasonal frittatas and pastries.

Wet your whistle at Bar Granger, named after a local brass band formed by C.19th builders, which pours draft beer, wines by the glass, and cocktails. Follow with a calorie-burner stroll through Fort’s fabulous BAM cultural district.
