To say Stephanie von Watzdorf has a flawless fashion CV, is like saying Edith Head had some Oscars. Awarded the coveted Golden Thimble upon graduation from the prestigious Parsons School of Design (with stints interning for Victor Edelstein and Yves Saint Laurent) she joined Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor and Tory Burch, so it was highly likely that at some point an eponymous label may sashay down the catwalk. Lo and behold, launched late 2012, the Stephanie von Watzdorf line is a triumph of relaxed, casual ‘mix and match’ with (most importantly) a uniquely seasonless design DNA that is meant for year-round layering.
Admittedly, while not every woman may clamour for von Watzdorf’s signature anchor piece, the military jacket (which appears in multiple fabrics and formats from sleeveless shirt to original, vintage three-quarter length with hand-embellished sequin angel wings motif) there are few wardrobes that wouldn’t benefit from the gloriously easy-slouch kaftans, tunics, pants, sweaters and cardigans, accessories, scarves and wraps on offer in the new Elizabeth Street boutique. And while international shipping isn’t yet on offer, the online store ships all over the US, so there’s no excuse for not throwing fashion conservatism to the four winds and investing in the eye-catching Lou sweater in zebra alpaca, hand-knitted in Bolivia, no less.
