Just Dandy

Doyle & Mueser

Anyone who followed last month’s Paris or Milan Fashion Weeks, the Men’s AW2013 in London, or Florence’s Pitti Uomo 83 will know the continuing importance of the suit as the mainstay and centre of any well-dressed man’s wardrobe. Worn as a two-piece, three-piece, or dressed down as its individual components, the suit is the staple that just keeps giving. And no-one knows that more than Fashion Institute of Technology alumni Amber Doyle and Jake Mueser, who set up their eponymous bespokery in 2010, fresh from the success of their trad-with-a-twist men’s outfitting emporium Against Nature.

Nestled on sun-dappled, tree-lined Christopher Street, Doyle & Mueser strikes a clarion note of custom-made sartorial elegance with its signature silhouette of slim-waisted jackets with gently padded shoulders that pair equally well with tapered or fuller Oxford-style trousers. The huge range of shirtings and suitings from winter-weight tweeds and flannels to silks, linens, cottons and even bamboo are complemented with an off-the-rack range that is fitted to order. Completing the look is a handsome edit of accessories and men’s furnishings from cashmere-lined leather gloves to hand-embroidered House of Waris scarves, handmade bow-ties and pocket squares, Italian umbrellas and knit ties, and there’s even a Personal Styling Service that takes away the headache and worry of current trends vs classic aesthetics. Just dandy.
