Italy and marble go together like a horse and carriage, and marble fetishists are in luck as Italian men’s tailoring brand Brioni unveils a brand new travertine-clad flagship boutique in NY’s Upper East Side. Interiors inspiration plus super-smart suits in the upscale UES? Count us in guys…
Designed by English architect David Chipperfield – the talent behind Berlin’s monumental Neues Museum – the store will tempt you to swing by just to stroke its tactile grey travertine walls and ogle the contrasting coloured grains of sculptural marble pillars, from green to ochre and dusky red. Intended to be an open stage-like set showcasing its architectural elements, the interiors reference ancient Rome’s epic buildings, as well as Modern architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s material-rich spaces.
Spread over two storeys, linked by a grand, imposing staircase, the minimal decor includes inviting seats for sitting back and relaxing, while you check out the classic-meets-directional suits, jackets, shirts, ties and shoes displayed on floor-to-ceiling, industrial-chic gunmetal shelves. More intimate zones beckon behind a curvy rosewood partition.
The store carries the brand's full range of men's suiting, lifestyle apparel, denim, accessories, shoes and bags. You can also make an appointment to meet Brioni’s master tailor, a one-to-two-hour session to commission a handcrafted suit from exclusive fabrics precision-cut to fit your style. Bespoke tuxedos, jackets, coats, formal shirts and ties are yours to command too. Viva Brioni!
