Blue Hill New York / Blue Hill at Stone Barns

New Yorkers are notoriously conscious about the provenance of their food, and as such make ever-growing efforts to eat both local and organic. For many, this includes frequent visits to downtown New York institution Blue Hill Restaurant, one of the pioneers of the city’s locavore movement, having been opened in 2000 by the Barber family (who have long since become known for their commitment to local food and artisanal wine). With a namesake farm in neighbouring Massachusetts as well as their upstate Stone Barns farm and restaurant, Blue Hill makes a unique and irresistible promise that the ingredients on the Greenwich Village table are home-grown and fresh-picked.

Tucked on a leafy street beside Washington Square Park, Blue Hill is an elegant oasis where the fare is geographically dedicated to New York’s Hudson Valley, the menu is heavily dependent on the season, and the preferred way to indulge is via the ‘Farmer’s Feast’, a five-course tasting menu that’s inspired by the week’s harvest. Alternatively, make it a half-day trip and visit Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, a working four-season farm where the formal on-site restaurant offers three multi-course farmer’s tastings (or a list of 100+ seasonal ingredients from the field and market), and an exhaustive, global wine list. Lovely for a romantic spring outing!
