Utterly En-Armoured

March 13, 2014
The Armoury
With fashion heavyweights such as the Dover Street Market, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga all jostling for space in New York’s teeming retail landscape, it seems only natural (if not ambitious) that Hong Kong’s dandiest gentlemen’s outfitter, The Armoury, should extend its reach to this fashion-forward city before any other. Founded and now furthered by Mark Cho, Alan See and Ethan Newton, the new Duane Street location showcases much of the curated selection of artisanal menswear that can be found in the Hong Kong original.

Luxury off-the-peg wares lining the dark polished shelves and brilliant brass racks include exquisite handmade silk cravats by London-based Drake’s, Spanish label Justo Gemino’s rural Teba hunting jackets, shirts from tailor Ascot Chang, and butter soft leather man-bags from US brand, Frank Clegg Leatherworks. But of course, what sets this store apart from your average high-end menswear retailer is the number of made-to-measure services on offer, such as Spigoli shoes handcrafted by Japanese cobbler Koji Suzuki, and suits from master tailors Orazio Luciano, Salvatore Ambrosi, and Antonio Liverano who visit a couple times a year to undertake any bespoke requests. Such an inimitable team will have you suited, booted and primped to perfection in a New York minute!
