Atla: Sizzling New Mexican

Can’t score a table at Manhattan’s hottest haute-Mexi resto Cosme? NY’s most talked-about chef Enrique Olvera and his right-hand Daniela Soto-Innes have unveiled a long-awaited, 60-seat neighbourhood Mexican restaurant that’s far more casual and veggie-focussed, and even does a killer brunch!

Jaw-dropping interiors mark NoHo’s Atla out as special, with sophisti black walls and mid-century-inspired chairs, grey banquettes, oakwood furni, and sculptural white terrazzo-tiled bar, enlivened with verdant plants. Ceramic plates add a minimal, modern-rustic touch.

The peeps here invite you to “Join the feast!” and with meals divided into breakfast/lunch and dinner, you know you’re on to a good time. We’re drawn to the former, ideal for lazy mornings tucking into light, healthsome treats like chia oatmeal or coconut yoghurt with blueberries. Step up the Mexi munchies with ranchero eggs with hoja santa herbs, kale tamales with tomato salsa, and guacamole goat cheese molletes. The split pea tlacoyos (oval-shaped masa cakes) are yum! Brunch-friendly drinks include café con leche, iced café de olla (espresso), and aguas frescas such as toasted sesame horchata.

Come dinner, you can order many of the brunch dishes – such as Arctic char tostada, mushroom quesadillas or quinoa and cucumber salad – or step it up a notch with steak tartare chile relleno or chicken caldo soup. Quirky cocktails channel Mexico, from the feisty ESL (Espadin, spice and lime) to Overproof Margarita, plus wines and mezcals. Hola!
